Very good point Richard. It would be very worthwhile to compare eBird =
numbers with the nocturnal counts, especially if it can be done within =
the same local or county areas. Using the Yellow Warbler example, one =
could see that my eBird reports (not yet posted) from ground surveys in =
the Canso area on the weekend of May 23-24 show no Yellow Warblers. That =
is consistent with the low nocturnal counts the previous few days and =
very likely indicates that there has not yet been a general arrival in =
the area.

Interesting as always. I see that Yellow warblers are down, but at least =
around here there seem to be more than ever on territory. That suggests =
to me that migration for this species has already peaked. I wonder if =
there is a good way of comparing your nocturnal call numbers with ebird =
numbers from say 2 weeks ago, or are the numbers too small?

Hi All,
Nocturnal migration was very light this week, less than half the number =
of calls recorded during the same period in 2013 at the same location. =
Compared to the results posted here for last week, sparrows were down =
from 145 to 21 calls, shorebirds from 147 to 3 calls, and warblers were =
up from 40 to 71 calls. Swainson=E2=80=99s Thrush had still not arrived. =
As a result there were only 2 thrush calls recorded; one Hermit Thrush =
and one Veery. Eleven species of warblers were recorded with Magnolia =
(26 calls) and Black-and-White (11 calls) being the most common. Yellow =
Warblers were conspicuously lower than for the same period in 2013 (6 =
calls down from 21 calls). A summary of calls recorded for the week =
along with an estimate of the number of individual birds is presented =
