   =EF=BB=BF Yes Dave it must have been local knowledge as there are many s=
uch rock structures through the province.

  <div>
   If you should like to visit we probably could arrange a time.

    Hi Paul &#38; All,
   </div>=20
   <div>
    &#160;&#160;&#160; The old bridge over the Gaspereau River on Route 12 =
(on the short loop that is slightly east of the current bridge) has stone w=
ork that has stood the test of ice and water over many years; I suspect sin=
ce that road was first used. As you say, a lot of knowhow goes into that qu=
ality of workmanship. Just briefly, I would like to be there to see how it =
is done.

    <div>
     Hi All
    </div>=20
    <div>
     Yesterday before the rain a friend and I went for a drive.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     As we approached the Shannon River we saw a trail going into the woods=
.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     It would have been a road in days gone by. We walked the trail and cam=
e upon
    </div>=20
    <div>
     the site of a former saw mill. All remains of the mill and the buildin=
gs were gone
    </div>=20
    <div>
     but the dam was still there - at least the stone part.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     The dam was an impressive structure, about 2 meters in height with a r=
ock face
    </div>=20
    <div>
     and backfilled with local fill. Building that required a lot of hard w=
ork with a team
    </div>=20
    <div>
     of oxen and a stone boat. Also a lot of knowhow too.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     The wooden part was gone but the remains still back up the water perha=
ps 0.5 meters.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     It must have flooded a large part of the lowland behind it and made so=
me changes to
    </div>=20
    <div>
     the local environment.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     At the site of the buildings there was an array of plants not native t=
o the area. Most striking
    </div>=20
    <div>
     was a yellow Day Lilly - a very lovely clear yellow. Smaller than toda=
ys models but no less
    </div>=20
    <div>
     beautiful and had survived all those years without any care. A good pl=
ant. The are will be explored
    </div>=20
    <div>
     re plants in more detail latter.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     Ladys Slippers were quite common in the area scattered through the woo=
ds that had grown to
    </div>=20
    <div>
     a good size. Yesterday with the dark overcast gave them a glow not oft=
en seen.
    </div>=20
    <div>
     A fine spot!
    </div>=20
    <div>
     Enjoy the summer
    </div>=20
