The Nature Consevancy of Canada preserves land in Nova Scotia as well as the NS Nature Trust. There are also other smaller land trusts here (eg Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy, Mahone Bay Islands Conservation Association). In order to preserve land, the organization must be committed to a very long term oversite of the property, which requires people power and funds and a long term future.

An organization must be approved by the province to hold a conservation easement that protects a property forever. This is under the NS Conservation Easement Act. (Eligible Bodies Regulations)

https://www.novascotia.ca/just/regulations/regs/coedesig.htm

Some 'Eligible bodies' able to create and easement are:

Federation of Nova Scotia Naturalist (Nature N.S.)
Blomidon Naturalist Society
Ecology Action Centre

However, I know that the FNSN and BNS do not have the resources to back an Environmental Easement and have choosen not to commit to holding land and land easements. You can approach other organization on that list and see if they will commit to an easement.

Hope this clears up some things

Larry
