[NatureNS] Coyote, Eastern Coyote, Coywolf or what?

I snapped the pic at the link below while birding the Wolfville Rail Trail
West yesterday. Can we tell from this pic what it is exactly? I would think
it is a coywolf but is that even an official designation? I searched other
pictures of coywolf and coyotes and this one does seem to more closely match
coywolf but there is also quite a range in the look of coywolf, presumably
depending on the mix of coyote/wolf/dog. Also is German Shepherd the only
dog that can be in the mix of coywolf? Can we tell what mix this one is?

 

It was behaving more like coyote than dog. The pic was taken with a 400 mm
lens so it was quite far off the trail (100+ meters I believe) and didn't
come any closer. It walked parallel to the trail in the same direction I was
going for a while and it knew I was watching and it kept its distance.
