On the same subject, I was on Mud Island, Yarmouth County, yesterday mo=
rning and was delighted to get many Blackpoll Warblers. I could hear 2 or 3=
from almost any wooded location on the island. They must have still been o=
n territory. This is in contrast to the low numbers of the other warblers t=
hat were heard. The expected Swainson's Thrushes were comparitively qui=
et, with only one singing and calling briefly. Also of interest was the app=

that have been put forward so far. Many of the birds in the interior of NS=
and NB have become mostly silent, fledged their young and moved away from =
their breeding areas to areas where their young will continue to build stre=
ngth for the trip south. On the coastal islands, some species still have yo=
ung in the nest in mid-August (Black-throated Green Warblers and Golden-cro=
wned Kinglets for instance) so they are probably the late season representa=
tives of their species that John detects.</span></p>=20

ng intensive bird surveys in the Fredericton area for the last two weeks. I=
t seems like at least reduced vocalization rates, mixed flock formation and=
some post-breeding dispersal are occurring.</p>=20

atively frequently. Least Flycatchers were heard in appropriate habitat onl=
y in the first week. No Yellow Warblers and only a couple of American Redst=

y.   Some of the warblers seen could have been migrants moved in =
from elsewhere in the province, and what we saw were usually in mixed =
groups, but there were few.  This suggests that the warblers that move=
into those areas have not arrived yet or those that were there have moved =
out altogether.  It will be interesting to compare to what is being se=
en in the southwest of the province by other birders and on Brier Island.&#=
160; If numbers of migrants are not being seen there, then likely the warbl=

field trip this weekend past, I would say that warblers have definitely sta=
rted migration earlier than normal.  I only had seven species.  I=
know that many more species were present over the summer on territory in t=
he places that we visited and they were absent on July 23.  Also repre=
sentative numbers of the seven species of warblers that we did get were low=
.  We had mostly juveniles with adults and most of the juveniles still=
with what I call peach fuzz.  Very noticeably missing were common yel=
lowthroat, Magnolia warbler, blackburnian, and Canada warbler.  We als=
o only found one yellow warbler.  I always get blue-headed vireoand th=
ey were gone as were eastern wood pewees and least flycatchers.  Alder=
flycatcher numbers were also down and this species is usually found the wh=
ole way along the route that I follow.  So I think that it is more tha=
n just the warblers that are on the move early.  </span></p>=20
