Great job Alix. In 1984 I worked for DNR or at the time The Department of =
Lands and Forest as a summer student. Myself and another guy named Dale di=
d Island Inventories for part of the summer off of Stonehurst and Mahone Ba=
y. At the time on Big Duck Island we had about 1500 Leaches Storm Petrel B=
urrows. I haven't been out to the island since, so I don't know the curren=
t status.

All:
I remember visiting Pearl Island perhaps 20 years ago in early fall and fin=
ding evidence (smell & one dead chick in a burrow) of continuing Leach's St=
.-P. nesting there, but don't know of any info since.
BTW, Anne Linton, whom many old-timers will remember, was very active in lo=
cal natural history and environmental circles as a student here. Anne marr=
ied another Dal student, Erick Greene, who went on to do his PhD at Princet=
on, and is a prof. at U. Montana. He has done some very interesting studies=
in a range of bird ecology and behaviour. Anne is also the faculty and tea=
ches, inter alia, scientific writing to students. She published a marvelous=
little book on that subject a couple of years ago, which has been widely p=
raised.
Cheers, Ian

A recollection: Back in the '70's my old buddy Anne Linton did a Master's o=
n the diet of Leach's petrels nesting on Pearl Island, off St. Margaret's B=
ay, under Ian's supervision. Don't know the status of that population. It=
's the most remote of the St. Margaret's Mahone islands.
Ian or anyone, any thoughts or updates on the Pearl Island Leach's populati=
on?
