Welcome to the Shubenacadie Canal web site!

The current plans for the Trans Canada Trail have it running along side of the Canal for many kilometers. A major junction will be located near the Canal Interpretive Center. Which operates through the summer months. (Seen below) Currently the center has interpretive panels, artifacts, and pamphlets with historical information available to the public at no charge.

The restoration of Lock Five.
The Shubenacadie Canal Commission is committed to the restoration of the Canal and its objective is to make the waterway as navigable as possible. This is a long and painstaking process. Some of the locks and channels have survived remarkably well over the years while others have suffered badly. Click here to view our current visionary ideas.
