World Heritage Site
July 7, 2008: It was announced today that "The Joggins Fossil Cliffs, (Canada)" has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
  The announcement from the Province of Nova Scotia is here.
  •   Dr. John H. Calder, of the NS Dept. of Natural Resources, has written a paper entitled
      "Coal Age Galapagos": Joggins and the Lions of Nineteenth Century Geology
      The paper was published in Atlantic Geology, 42, 37-51 (2006). A link is provided here (4.7 MB).

Conferences

  • The conference consisted of oral and poster presentations of undergraduate student research from the Atlantic region.
  • The Institute sponsored a prize at this conference, for best presentation of basic research. The winner was Rebecca Lethbridge from Memorial University. Her poster presentation was titled: "Intrahippocampal infusion of the B-adrenoreceptor agonist Isoproterenol potentiates the perforant path-evoked population spike in the dentate gyrus of Urethane-anesthetized rats". Rebecca's certificate was presented by Jason Frenette, the NSERC representative for the Atlantic Region.
