Wanda Graham


Wanda Graham has a rich and diverse background in the theatrical arts. As an actor she began her professional a career at Stratford in 1974 playing a variety of Shakespearean roles. Since then, she has appeared in many roles in many productions in Nova Scotia, on tour with Mulgrave Rd. Theatre, in productions in Toronto and Montreal, at the National Arts Center in Ottawa, and at the Blyth Festival. Some of her recent roles have been in Villa Eden, Ma Belle Mabel, Offensive to Some, Woman in a Monkey Cage, Devil's Handmaiden, Deathtrap, Honey and White Blood, Blood Relations, Beinn Bhreagh, Lockhartville, and Duet For One.

As a playwright, she has been equally prolific. She has written some twenty-seven plays that have been staged from Banff, Alberta to Trinity, Newfoundland and in many locales in between. Some of her more recent works include Mrs. Dahmer (1999), Brangea (1999), Brat (1997), Blue God (1997), Abandoned/Abandonnee (1994-97), Ascension of Anaïs Nin (1995), Honey and White Blood (1993), Icarus (1993), The Land of Bright (1992), Shadow Dancer (1991), Devil's Handmaiden (1991), and Boys! Boys! Boys! (1991).

She has also worked as a director, notably with Stage East, for whom she has directed many productions as well as with Live Bait Theatre & Neptune Theatres, Cite Live and Actor's Lab. Her teaching credentials are also extensive including work at both Dalhousie and York Universities as well as many workshops and classes for groups such as Flashfire Productions, Neptune Theatre School, Nova Scotia High School Drama Festival, and the Nova Scotia Drama League.

Her work has been recognized by the receipt of many Canada Council grants; the Jean A. Chalmers' Award at the Stratford Festival (1974); the Stage Door Best Actress Award (1997) and the Stratford Festival Eliott Hayes Playwriting Award (1997). She has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Dalhousie University and Master's degree in Fine Arts in Theatre from York University.

Military Wives is her directorial debut in the film world. Wanda Graham lives with her family in the fishing village of Sambro, not far from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
