THE SECURITY SCREENINGS:A ONE-DAY FILM FESTIVAL ON HUMAN SECURITY
On Sunday, June 9th, a one-day film festival on international human security
issues will be held in Halifax. The festival features nine films covering
topics as diverse as Afghanistan, the environment, disarmament and peace
activism.
The Security Screenings film festival will include two 'pay-what-you-can'
showings:
* Nova Scotia Community College Auditorium, Bell Road Campus - 1:30 pm
* Oxford Cinema, at Oxford and Quinpool streets - 6:30 pm.
Each 2-hour screening will include different films (a complete schedule is
below). A reception with refreshments will follow the afternoon screening.
The festival includes the world premiere of "Between the Earth and the Sun," a
film that looks at the rehabilitation of landmine survivors in Nicaragua. Other
highlights include "The Big Snit," an award-winning and wonderfully wacky NFB
animation on conflict, "Banned in Afghanistan," a haunting look at women's
lives in Taliban Afghanistan, and "Muriel Duckworth: Practising Peace," a
tribute to the spirit of the well-known Halifax peace activist.
