Immigration offices at 1741 Brunswick Street

Sanja's family lived in Kosovo and fled to Serbia after the NATO
bombing. She went back to Kosovo to work for the UN; when things got
tense for UN employees she came to Canada. Pecelj received a
deportation order on April 1, 2003, after two years in Canada. Her
application for refugee status had been denied. Officials told her
she hadn't presented the evidence required to support her claim.
She turned to a church in Halifax for help, taking sanctuary in the
basement of St. Mark's Anglican Church in Halifax. Today she is still
there.

4. CANDLELIGHT PEACE VIGIL ON SUN. FEB. 15
Sunday, February 15th at 5pm
In front of the Spring Garden Road library

At dusk on Sunday, February 15, 2004 help make something extraordinary
happen. Join with people from all walks of life in your community and
around the world to stand together for peace. Vigils will be taking
place in over 30 cities in Bangladesh, Canada, China, Great Britain,
Mozambique, Switzerland, USA. This international solidarity event will
mark the first anniversary of the historic day when more than 10 million
people in over 600 cities world-wide demonstrated against the Bush and
Blair administrations' plans for the invasion of Iraq. It was the
largest protest for peace in world history. In Halifax we will be
commemorating the largest peace march in Halifax's history, when over
3,000 braved bitter cold temperatures on February 15, 2003 to call for a
peaceful resolution to the conflict in Iraq. This vigil will be a
lead-up to a peace march to take place on Saturday, March 20 on the
one-year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Bring a wind-proof candle
and a friend.
