First Ever Visit of National Green Leader to Atlantic Canada
___________________________________________________________

HALIFAX-February 6th 2004 - Jim Harris, national leader of
the Green Party of Canada, will make the Greens' first ever
swing into Atlantic Canada to address students at Dalhousie's
Law School and to officially launch the first chapter of the Campus
Greens in the region.

Buoyed by recent opinion polls suggesting that the Greens might have as
much as 5% of the national vote, the Greens plan to field a full slate
of 308 candidates from coast to coast. Up to now, the Greens
have never had more than a
handful of candidates in Atlantic Canada.

Green support has consistently been strongest amongst the young and the
university educated and Harris hopes to reach Halifax's large university
population on this trip, many of whom reject conventional parties and
decline their vote. The Greens have been active in efforts to
address the general decline in voter turnout.

Mr Harris will be speaking at two venues on Thursday, February 19th:

12:00 noon, Weldon Law School, Dalhousie University
7-9 PM Red Room, 2nd floor, University of King's College

Both meetings are open to interested members of the general public.

Jim Harris will be available for media interviews during his visit to
Halifax.

A brief offical BIO of Harris is at the bottom of this email, along with
the link to the GLOBE&MAIL aricle detailing the Greens' 5% in the polls.

BIO:
   Jim Harris

   Leader, Green Party of Canada

Jim Harris is a journalist, author and management consultant. He has
worked in print, radio and television on three continents. Jim is the
co-author of the national bestseller, The 100 Best Companies to Work
for in Canada. Mr. Harris initially joined the Progressive
Conservative Party, because of continued deficit financing by the
Liberal government in the early 1980s. But when he learned a species
was becoming extinct every minute and realized the ecological debt was
not forgivable, he became an ecological conservative instead of just a
fiscal one. In 1987 he served as the national press officer for the
Green Party of the UK and is a life member of that party. He served as
a campaign strategist for the Green Party of Ontario's (GPO) recent
election campaign which saw the party field 102 candidates in 103
ridings and receive 127,000 votes. Jim was elected leader of the GPC
in February 2003 with over 80% support of the party.
