, Arkan - Ukrainian Dance Troupe
Arkan, a Ukrainian dance troupe from Ontario, will be the headline performers at the 17th annual Multicultural Festival on the Dartmouth Waterfront. The company consists of 20 of the Academy's top dancers, between the ages of 15 to adult.

Arkan Dance Company is a registered not-for-profit charity that frequently performs in and around the Toronto area, and is often preparing for an international tour. Since their formation, they have performed in Florida, Taiwan, Brazil, Manitoba, and China, as cultural ambassadors of Canada and Ukraine at International Festivals.

The Artistic Director of Arkan Dance Company and the Ukraine Academy of Dance is Danovia Stechishin. She has been teaching and choreographing ballet, modern, character and folk dance for 22 years.

This year the group is participating in an exchange trip with Mary's Islanders from here in Nova Scotia. Both groups will be performing at the Opening Ceremonies of the Multicultural Festival 2001.

Experience the World
Come experience the 17th Annual Multicultural Festival. This year's theme is "Experience the World". The Festival will be located at the Dartmouth Waterfront Events Plaza on June 22, 23 and 24. The times are as follows: Friday - 4 p.m. - midnight, Saturday - 10 a.m. - midnight, Sunday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

We are pleased to announce that the Masters of Ceremony hosting this year's Opening Ceremony are performing artist Heather Rankin and ATV's Todd Battis. This event will be held on June 22, and attended by The Honourable Myra A. Freeman, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, The Honourable Jane Purves, Department of Education, Deputy Mayor Jerry Blumenthal, HRM, and many more. As part of the Opening Ceremony all present will take part in a Reaffirmation of Canadian Citizenship.

The Opening Ceremony of this year's Festival will highlight culturally diverse song & dance such as Arkan - Ukrainian dancers, Albanian music ensemble, Canadian Lebanon Society dancers, NS Mass Choir, A Touch of Hope, Samba Nova and many more.
