Last week I witnessed at least 32 gannets and 10 diving just outside the Mac=
Cormack Beach in Eastern Passage. Thought one was a Caspian tern, but was d=
istracted for a moment so I couldn't relocate it to confirm my sighting. =20=
You would see such a feeding frenzy especially when the conditions are ideal=
-- that's what I have observed them up close: pending storm, strong winds,=
and incoming tide. A few years ago, we saw 100s of gannets and petrels up c=
lose off Big Island a few years ago. That was when the tide was coming in an=
d the winds were strong.=20
