Site Plan Development
    Site Plan - Phase # 2

The second phase of site development involves construction of the new Mainland Commons Recreational Facility and related access, parking and landscape improvements. The new main entrance road to Mainland Commons will be built along the east side of the site to provide access to the expanded facility.

Since the site will be built in two phases, the architectural concept is to create a village of building forms connected internally but distinct in terms of form and orientation on the site. This approach will allow for some creativity and independence in the architectural design of the two facilities.

The Recreation Facility consists of a lobby area, a fitness centre and a double-height swimming pool building with change rooms. The lobby space connects directly to the Library lobby and to facilities that will be shared with the Recreation Facility. Pedestrian access to the Recreation Facility lobby is provided at the same elevation as the Library building.

Parking in Phase 2 is provided in two different locations on the site. The existing Phase 1 parking lot is expanded along the east side of the new Recreation Facility building and an overflow parking lot is located on the east side of the main entrance road to Mainland Commons.

The new main entrance road is positioned further east than in the original Mainland Commons Master Plan to allow for a more level surface area around the Recreational Facility building for parking and to allow for realignment of an intermittent watercourse that would have been covered by the road.
