Membership: Policies

The Centre for Art Tapes offers two types of membership and three fee categories.

A General Member is defined as a member who attends General Meetings. A General Member does not need to be a Producer.

A Producer Member is defined as a member who uses the Centre's video, audio and post-production equipment and facilities. A Producer Member is under no obligation to attend meetings.

General Members are entitled to vote at General Meetings and are eligible for positions on the Board of Directors and/or committees. General membership becomes active after attendance at one General Meeting and is maintained by attendance of quarterly general meetings.

An individual member can become a General Member and/or a Producer Member. If a member decides to become a General/Producer member the following obligations/benefits ensue:

General/Producer Members will be allocated $200/yr of free access to production facilities, broken into allotments of $50 per 3 month period and is not cumulative. General/Producer Members will be included on the Centre's mailing list and will receive information on upcoming events and submission calls.

Individual Member: $50 per year

An individual Producer is a producer independent of any other body and holding singular copyright to the work. Producer Members must demonstrate competence and be certified to use equipment and facilities. Clearance may be obtained through workshop experience and/or production experience.

Group Member: $80/110/$140* per year

Any number of people working on a joint project for the benefit of the group. Special group memberships are available to non-profit organizations. Membership, equipment and facility rates are determined by the organization's gross annual income*. Group members have access to equipment and facilities at subsidized rates, and staff can provide technical assistance and project consultation.

Associate Member: $20 per year

Associate membership provides a non-voting membership by which individuals and organizations sharing mutual concerns for the cultural community may recognize and support the function of the Centre for Art Tapes. Associate members will be included on the mailing list.

7. Bookings made by paying producers have priority over free credit bookings. If there is a conflict, free credit users have the option of keeping their booking by paying cash for the time or equipment. Free credit users will be contacted by the Director of Production at any available telephone number no less than two days prior to being bumped. If a producer feels that they may be difficult to contact they must phone and confirm their booking two days prior. The onus is on the producer to maintain contact.

8. Facilities and equipment are not meant to be used to satisfy the requirements of a course of study in an educational institution, however, a student using free credit rather than money may access the facilities and equipment for these purposes.
