The Battle for
Mosher River

Moser River is a small Canadian community two hours from Halifax on Nova Scotia's eastern shore, where residents have been plagued by vandalism and other forms of intimidation for over two generations. In the absence of adequate policing, acts of violence have escalated to the point where some residents have taken the law into their own hands. This increase in lawlessness resulted in the murder of Donald Findlay in the Halifax County Correctional Centre 90 minutes into serving a 14-day weekend sentence for dangerous driving.

The Battle for Moser River goes beyond the simple reconstruction of a murder case to look behind the complex story of rural culture, family feuding and the consequences of violent behavior. Using the court case only as a dramatic spine, the film looks at one community's descent into turmoil. The Battle for Moser River tells a universal story of the tragedy of two lives sacrificed for no good reason.

The film is directed by Peter d'Entremont and Lesley Ann Pattenand produced by Marilyn A. Belec, Michael Mahoney, Jerry McIntosh, Don Richardson, Peter d'Entremont. It is a coproduction of theNational Film Board and Triad Film Productions.
