On January 13, 1998 a letter of opinion "as to the strength of the Himmelman title" was received by Trevor Dalgleish, Manager- Acquisitions Section, NS Natural Resources, in response to his Offer to Hire dated August 20, 1997 (no comment on the letter of opinion will be offered here).

February 8, 1998 Meeting Notes of a Committee of the Board of the Friends of Crescent Beach (FOCB) indicate that NS Natural Resources had acknowledged the existence of the proposed trade and the Letter of Opinion, but refused to share any details.

March 11, 1998 FOCB Board Chair Bob Romkey wrote to Brian Gilbert (Acting Deputy Minister, NS Natural Resources Summer 2004, at the time Regional Manager, DNR Bridgewater), copied to Don Downe MLA Lunenburg West, as follows:

I am writing again on the behalf of the Friends of Crescent Beach, Green Bay and Area Society in reference to Sperry's Beach.

We request the following action:

a) The Department of Natural Resources withdraw from further negotiations with the Himmelman's and set aside the concept of trading away Crown title to the old Shore Road across the area presently fenced in by the Himmelman's lower pasture.

b) The Department of Natural Resources retain title to the old Shore Road indefinitely.

c) The Department of Natural Resources insist on having the fence relocated along the landward boundary of the old Shore Road.

No response is on record.
