May 30, 2000 FOCB Board Vice Chair Peter Bell wrote to Gerry Joudrey (Regional Manager, DNR Bridgewater), copied to Don Downe MLA Lunenburg West, as follows:

We are again writing to you with respect to the barbed wire fence, which is still in place, thereby denying public access to the public right-of-way at Sperry's Beach.

We are also again requesting that you use your authority to cause the owners of the fence to re-locate it to a position along the Western sideline of the right-of-way.

This situation has been going on for a number of years, with the public being denied the priviledge of walking on Crown land, illegally fenced and occupied. We believe that the time has come to put an end to this continued denial of access.

June 9, 2000 a response was written by Gordon Adams, Regional Resource Manager NS Natural Resources:

I am in the process of investigating the fence and will update you as soon as possible.

July 7, 2000 FOCB Board Chair Karen Dempsey wrote to Gordon Adams, Regional Resource Manager NS Natural Resources:

I am writing to you requesting a time schedule of when you will be investigating the fence on DNR lands at Sperry's Beach and updating us on your findings. Please advise when we might expect a response to our numerous requests for the fence to be re-located to allow public access to what was the old public road from Petite to Broad Cove.

Gordon Adams attended a meeting of the FOCB Board of Directors October 10, 2000, confirmed in a letter to him from Board Chair Karen Dempsey dated October 13, 2000:

Further to your meeting with our Board of Directors on October 10, 2000- this will confirm that you will be requesting that Mr David Himmelman move the fence to a position along the Western sideline of the right-of-way at Sperry's Beach.

and by his response, dated October 30, 2000:

The matter of the location of the fence within the Right-of-Way has been turned over to staff of the Land Administration Division for action.
